Edwin Freeman at Texas State 7-on-7 Wescott Eberts (SB Nation)The 6’1, 215-pound hybrid defender has now narrowed his list to those two schools, according to 247Sports, with visits planned to each over the next two weeks. First up is Texas A&M, which will host Freeman this weekend, then Texas the next weekend. Freeman’s timeline lists the Austin visit for the 14th, the day after the team banquet, which would seem like a possibility as well.
As for one of the deciding factors in his recruitment, the Longhorns are still recruiting Freeman as a safety even though he’s played linebacker each of the last two season and projects there in college as he continues to add mass to his frame. The Aggies, meanwhile, are recruiting him as a pure linebacker.

A consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 10 outside linebacker prospect nationally and the No. 17 player in the state of Texas, the 6’1, 212-pound Freeman had reinserted childhood favorite Texas as his leader during the spring after the Aggies passed the Longhorns last fall. It even looked like Freeman was set to become a Longhorn prior to the start of his season, but he opted to extend his recruitment in order to take official visits in the fall, though his trip to College Station was unofficial.

The 6’1, 215-pounder told SB Nation Recruiting at Texas State 7on7 that the ‘Horns are at the top of his list because they were his favorite growing up and because of his strong relationship with defensive back coach Duane Akina and recruiting coordinator Bruce Chambers.
