LEANDER, Texas -- The recruiting process is about to come to an end for Arlington (Texas) Bowie safety/outside linebacker Edwin Freeman, who has a top three of Texas, Texas A&M, and TCU (in that order), as well as a pending trip to visit LSU before he makes his decision in August.

A decision is looming in the near future for the consensus four-star prospect.
The 6’1, 215-pounder told SB Nation Recruiting at Texas State 7on7 that the ‘Horns are at the top of his list because they were his favorite growing up and because of his strong relationship with defensive back coach Duane Akina and recruiting coordinator Bruce Chambers.
Texas sits in pole position despite Freeman having declared the Aggies his leaders last fall. Freeman said that had moved A&M in front of Texas at the time because he was excited about having receiving his first offer from head coach Kevin Sumlin and company.
There was also buzz during the summer that the Horned Frogs could make a move with the potential hybrid player in college because former Bowie coach Kenny Perry was hired to the TCU personnel staff. However, Freeman indicated that it wouldn’t impact his decision, saying that it’s still his choice to make. The Horned Frogs are sitting in third place for Freeman right now, but he does like the coaching staff, especially the fact that they sit down with him to talk about his personal life and not just about football.
Other than where the talented defender will end in college, the rest of the discussion surrounding his recruitment has focused on his eventual position. Now closing in on 215 pounds, Freeman played linebacker last season and showed a knack for working through traffic to find the football. He’s increasingly come to understand that his future is likely closer to the ball in college, as he said that TCU is recruiting him at that position, while A&M hasn’t mentioned it and Texas is still recruiting him as a defensive back.
The preference is still to play safety, Freeman said, but it won’t have a big impact on his eventual decision, which will come before his senior season of high school football begins after he sits down and talks with his family.
First, though, there’s a trip to LSU to take. What would it take for the Tigers to get into the mix?
“I don’t know, that’s what I’m going there to see,” Freeman said.
Until Les Miles and his staff can blow him away, it looks like Freeman’s childhood favorite will prevail and he’ll play his college football in Austin for the Longhorns -- he’s been frank about the fact that they’re his leader and every prediction but one in the 247Sports Crystal Ball has him committing to Texas.
