Varshaun Nixon at the Round Rock SQT in 2013 Wescott Eberts (SB Nation)The 5-9, 185-pound all-purpose back committed to A&M in November of 2012, never appearing to waver until taking a surprise official visit to Fort Worth over the weekend to visit with head coach Gary Patterson and his staff, fueling speculation that Nixon would flip his commitment, which happened late Tuesday morning.
A consensus four-star prospect, Nixon is rated as the No. 5 all-purpose back nationally, the No. 22 player in the state of Texas, and the No. 182 player in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also held offers from Clemson, SMU, and Texas Tech and likely would have had many more had he not originally shut down his recruitment so early.

Tom PenningtonThe 2014 and 2014 recruiting classes for the Red Raiders received additions over the weekend, with the pledge of 2015 Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial running back Corey Dauphine the first in that cycle.
Walnut (Calif.) Mt. San Antonio Community College offensive lineman Shaquille Davis was the addition to the 2014 class. A left tackle in junior college, the 6’4, 320-pounder may be destined for the guard position in Lubbock, in the estimation of Viva the Matadors’ Seth C. Erich SchlegelThe biggest pledge of the weekend in the Big 12 came in for a school that is known for taking under recruited prospects and turning them into excellent collegiate players. So the commitment of Dodge City CC (Kansas) defensive tackle Terrell Clinkscales was unusual because Clinkscale is a consensus four-star prospect and the top junior college defensive tackle in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, though it is certainly quite familiar to see head coach Bill Snyder tap into the junior college ranks.
Clinkscale took to Twitter over the weekend to announce that he was decommitting from the Nebraska Cornhuskers and committing to the Wildcats, a big recruiting win for Kansas State over their former Big Eight and Big 12 rival:

Emanuel Porter at the Texas state track meet in May 2013 Wescott Eberts (SB Nation)A consensus three-star prospect on the verge of a four-star rating from 247Sports, Porter had committed to TCU in August of 2012 before decommitting on June 10, 2013 and committing to Texas five days later.
The decision not to retain wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt may have played a role in Porter switching his pledge back to TCU on the day that the recruiting dead period ended and Horned Frogs coaches visited with him. That visit from the TCU staff apparently had a greater impact than a similar visit from the new Texas coaches.

Tom PenningtonHenderson said that his plan is to take some visits, presumably official, before making his decision, then listed Florida, Ole Miss, Texas, and Baylor as schools that might receive them, which would likely leave TCU and South Carolina battling for the other official visit, assuming that no other schools seriously enter his recruitment.
Of Henderson’s top six, Florida and South Carolina are not listed as having offered Henderson to this point. The frontrunner, according to his 247Sports page, is Texas, though Henderson obviously did note that there is no order to his top six. All of the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions currently have the nation’s No. 24 defensive tackle heading to Austin to play his college football, where he would join a class that currently has two defensive tackle commits in San Antonio (Texas) Warren’s Trey Lealaimatafao and New Orleans (La.) St. Augustin’s Courtney Garnett.

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIREThe 247Sports Texas site first broke the news that Henderson had decommitted and Inside Texas reported a short while later that Henderson had flipped to the Longhorns. However, reports from 247Sports and ESPN indicated that the Horns are merely the frontrunner for Henderson and that he has not yet committed to Texas. It may only be a matter of time before Henderson joins the Texas class.
There was also a report that Henderson has not decommitted from TCU, per a source, but 247Sports is standing by their report, citing multiple sources. Another report from the TCU Rivals site also holds that Henderson has not yet ended his commitment to the Horned Frogs.
