DT Zaycoven Henderson decommits from TCU?

The 247Sports Texas site first broke the news that Henderson had decommitted and Inside Texas reported a short while later that Henderson had flipped to the Longhorns. However, reports from 247Sports and ESPN indicated that the Horns are merely the frontrunner for Henderson and that he has not yet committed to Texas. It may only be a matter of time before Henderson joins the Texas class.

There was also a report that Henderson has not decommitted from TCU, per a source, but 247Sports is standing by their report, citing multiple sources. Another report from the TCU Rivals site also holds that Henderson has not yet ended his commitment to the Horned Frogs.

Ranked as a consensus four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Henderson is ranked as the No. 24 defensive tackle in the country in those rankings and the No. 34 player in the state of Texas. He also held offers from Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, and Texas Tech before committing to the Horned Frogs in late February of 2012 at a Junior Day, several weeks after picking up his offer from Gary Patterson and his staff.

The loss would be a significant one for a TCU class that now sits has only one consensus four-star prospect and no commitments along the defensive line, though Palestine (Texas) athlete Jarrell Owens is likely headed for that side of the ball in college. There’s also a dearth of highly-rated defensive tackles in the state for 2014, so it wouldn’t be easy to replace Henderson.

From the Texas perspective, Henderson would be a big addition to the Texas class because while the Horns have two defensive tackles currently committed, the 2013 class signed without a single player at the position, making it a major need in 2014.
