Emanuel Porter decommits from the TCU Horned Frogs after Texas offer

It seems like only a matter of time before the Lincoln product joins the Texas class.

Dallas (Texas) Lincoln wide receiver Emanuel Porter has been a soft commitment to the TCU Horned Frogs for some time after pledging back in August of 2012. On Monday, Porter decided to officially re-open his recruitment a day after picking up an offer from the Texas Longhorns at Sunday's mini-camp:

The news came on the heels of Orangebloods reporting that a source had told them the same thing earlier in the day.

A 6’5, 190-pounder, Porter is a consensus three-star prospect, the no. 70 player in the state of Texas by 247Sports, and the no. 69 wide receiver nationally by the same service. The offer from the Longhorns is the only offer other than TCU currently held by the Lincoln wide receiver.

The Horned Frogs have been making up ground on the Longhorns in recruiting over the last several years, competing more closely for top prospects and flipping Arlington (Texas) Martin running back Kyle HIcks from Texas to TCU in December of 2012, though Hicks' relationship with former high school teammate Devonte Fields, the star sophomore Horned Frog defensive end, also played a major role in his decision.

In any case, the Longhorns exacted some retribution on Sunday by flipping 2015 Center (Texas) safety Johnny Shaw shortly after offering him and appear ready to do the same with Porter unless something unexpected happens.

The loss of Porter leaves the Horned Frogs with four commitments in the 2014 class, while the ‘Horns are hoping to add Porter to a wide receiver group that already includes Abilene Cooper’s Lorenzo Joe and Sharpstown’s Roderick Bernard, with Texas City’s Armanti Foreman a possible pending addition with his twin brother D’Onta now able to join the Texas class.
