Tramel Terry enrolled at Georgia: South Carolina receiver recruit could play early

Terry is rehabbing an ACL injury, but he could still make an impact for the Bulldogs in 2013.

Tramel Terry, a wide receiver/cornerback prospect out of Goose Creek High School in South Carolina, is an early enrollee at Georgia. Terry has been committed to the Bulldogs since last March.

Unfortunately, Terry’s Georgia football career began with an injury. Terry tore an ACL in the Shrine Bowl all-star game, which pits the top prospects from North Carolina and South Carolina against each other. He had surgery to repair the injury in Athens on Jan. 4, and UGA head coach Mark Richt has not ruled out the chance of Terry playing in 2013.

“We wanna see how he rehabs, how fast he rehabs, and what he’s capable of when the time comes,” Richt said. “It is a long season, and it could be that - he might not be ready Game 1, but he might be ready not long after that. So we’ll just have to see.”

SB Nation’s Dawg Sports has been waiting on Terry to join the fold for a while now, and last June they noted the potential for Terry to play defensive back for the Bulldogs in this upcoming season and beyond, depending on how UGA’s recruiting class shakes out.

What I think we’re seeing is the staff preparing for the future with the luxury of knowing that they should have contributors at the receiver spot in 2013. If any of those uncommitted prospects pick the ‘Dawgs there’s a very real chance that J.J. Green or Tramel Terry could move over and play corner.

One of those uncommitted wide receiver prospects at the time was Reggie Davis, who did indeed pledge to the Bulldogs.

Terry is ranked as the ninth-best wide receiver and the No. 101 overall player in the class of 2013 by 247Sports.

Ratings: Terry is considered a four-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports.

Vitals: He’s 6’0”, weighs 190 pounds, and runs a 4.4 40.

Other offers: Clemson, Florida, Mississippi State, Auburn, LSU

Recruitment timeline: Terry committed to Georgia for the second time on March 6 of last year. He initially committed to the Bulldogs in July of 2011, but he backed off that pledge and continued to explore his options. Terry made unofficial visits to South Carolina, Clemson and Alabama prior to re-upping with UGA.
