Georgia football recruiting is off to another solid start. UGA blog Dawg Sports joins us to break down their 2013 class progress.
Quantity over quality for Georgia

USA TODAY SportsGeorgia had a somewhat disappointing signing day, but they still have a top 15 class thanks to a simply enormous load of signees, including 13 early enrollees.
The Dawgs have the No. 10 class per ESPN and Scout and No. 12 in the nation according to Rivals and 247. The reasoning behind it is just the sheer size of the class: 32 recruits, all of them three- or four-star recruits. That last tidbit is both a good thing and a bad thing: on the one hand, nearly half of Georgia’s huge haul recruits are considered four stars by most services, but on the other, they don’t have a single player considered a five-star prospect by any service. For a school of Georgia’s caliber, and considering the Peach State’s load included the No. 1 national recruit, that’s a bit of a whiff by Mark Richt’s staff, even if they did get some unreal numbers.

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Tramel Terry, a wide receiver/cornerback prospect out of Goose Creek High School in South Carolina, is an early enrollee at Georgia. Terry has been committed to the Bulldogs since last March.
Unfortunately, Terry’s Georgia football career began with an injury. Terry tore an ACL in the Shrine Bowl all-star game, which pits the top prospects from North Carolina and South Carolina against each other. He had surgery to repair the injury in Athens on Jan. 4, and UGA head coach Mark Richt has not ruled out the chance of Terry playing in 2013.

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Highly-regarded safety prospect Tray Matthews, who played for Newnan High School (GA), is officially a member of the Georgia Bulldogs football program. Matthews enrolled early, joining an impressive group of prospects who are on campus in Athens for the spring semester.
Matthews recorded 80 tackles as a senior in 2012 and also picked off a pass. He is considered the fifth-best player at his position by Rivals and the No. 44 overall prospect in the class of 2013. He joins a Georgia recruiting class that is ranked among the nation’s best.

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Brice Ramsey, a pro-style quarterback from Camden County High School (GA), is enrolled at the University of Georgia. Ramsey is a long-time UGA commitment, and he is one of several highly-touted prospects to enroll at Georgia for the spring semester.
Ramsey threw for 1,396 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions as a senior for Camden County. Rivals rates him the 14th-best quarterback in the 2013 class, and the 18th-best player in the state of Georgia. He’s considered the No. 3 pro-style QB in the class by 247Sports.

USA TODAY SportsIn stunning news, Reuben Foster, the top inside linebacker recruit in the country and an Auburn commitment who was once committed to Alabama, has been spotted at the University of Alabama Saturday night, according to reports.
The reason this is stunning? Foster was supposed to be on his official visit to Auburn, the chief rival of the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY SportsA major surprise if it comes true: it is being reported by Scott Kennedy of Scout that Laremy Tunsil, the top offensive tackle recruit in the country, is a done deal to play for Ole Miss.
This is a fairly big deal because Kennedy is not just some intern for the Mississippi Scout site. Kennedy is Scout’s National Director of Scouting, and has been with the company for 10 years. Here’s the tweet:

Bud Elliott, SB Nation RecruitingIt hasn’t been a well-kept secret that former-Auburn commit Dee Liner is likely to sign with Alabama, but with a surprise visit to Georgia, that might have become less of a sure thing.
Liner decommitted from Auburn after Gene Chizik was fired, and immediately eliminated the Tigers from his finalists. That didn’t leave many options. Although Miami was still hypothetically in the running, it seemed like the 6’2, 274-pound defensive end from Muscle Shoals, Alabama only had eyes for the Crimson Tide. But a report from Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution indicates that Liner reached out to the Bulldogs, and will visit the campus this weekend after meeting with Mark Richt.

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Top linebacker prospect Reuben Foster is visiting San Diego State this week. Foster probably isn’t seriously considering playing at SDSU, and this top three choices remain Georgia, Alabama and Auburn.
Foster is coming off a visit with UGA, and he’s expected to have an in-home visit with Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt on Tuesday. Foster was formerly an Auburn commitment, but he re-opened his recruitment after Gene Chizik and staff were fired following a 3-9 season. Since then, Georgia has become a serious player for Foster’s services.

Montravius Adams Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Georgia is making a major effort to keep more of its top players in state. One of those stars is defensive tackle Montravius Adams, of Vienna (Ga.) Dooly County High School. The five-star defensive tackle with offers from Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida State, Clemson, Georgia and Florida is in very high demand thanks to his blend of power and quickness.
Over the weekend, he tripped to Athens with his mother for his official visit to Georgia. He spoke with ESPN about Georgia’s pitch ($):

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)“Coach Grantham just popped the tape in, we watched it, and it was pretty exciting,” Foster said. “He wants to move me around, blitz me a lot, and he showed me Jarvis Jones video, and how he used them. I like that because that is my style. I rush the quarterback well, I play fast, and I liked what he was showing me.”
Foster was originally an Alabama commitment, then flipped to Auburn, but decided to open things back up after Gene Chizik was fired at the end of the 2012 season. Foster is still considering the Tigers, though, and he’s planning to visit the school on Feb. 1. He also visited Alabama on Jan. 18.

Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Defensive tackle prospect Montravius Adams will be in Athens this weekend to visit UGA, and he says this trip is as much for his mother as for himself.
“Well I’m just trying to see what my Mama is going to like about it really,” said Adams. “I know a lot about Georgia, and it is a great place. I want my Mama to see it again.”

Scott CunninghamThe recent success helped to relieve some pressure from Mark Richt and his staff, and the Bulldogs are putting together a strong recruiting class for 2013. As things stand now, the Bulldogs have 29 commitments, and the class is ranked as the ninth-best group in the nation by Rivals.com. Four other SEC schools rank ahead of Georgia, but only one (Florida) plays in the SEC East.
Here’s a glance at some of the top prospects in Georgia’s class:

John Reed-US PRESSWIREIn the aftermath of Auburn’s firing of Gene Chizik, many fans around the country are asking which recruits plan to stick with Auburn and which may elect to move on. That’s a tough question, but it makes sense to assume that players who were already looking around will continue to do so. It’s also relatively safe to assume that players who never wavered from their commitment to Auburn during the disastrous 2012 season will probably stick.
I’ll get to the players with shaky commitments, but first, news came Sunday night that Jaquay Williams, a receiver who had already been wavering, decommitted. Williams had a long relationship with Auburn, having signed there last season and failing to qualify before heading to Georgia Military Academy, a prep school.

Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRETurman recently visited Georgia with his parents, and saw that Georgia did not have any running backs in its 2013 class.
Why wasn’t Turman more heavily pursued by the in-state teams? That answer is complicated, but mostly stems from the loaded year in the state for running backs. Turman would be a top-five back in the Sunshine State in other years, but in the 2013 class, he’s merely top-10.

Kevin C. CoxA.J. Turman, a top running back recruit from Orlando (Fla.) Boone High School, is set to make his college commitment Tuesday. Laremy Tunsil Bud Elliott (SB Nation)Though neither school invited recruits to the game, Georgia’s win over Florida should pay dividends on the recruiting trail. But it’s not about beating the Gators, though that is a very nice win. The real impact could be felt if the Dawgs take care of business and again reach the SEC Championship. If they were to win, that helps recruiting. And if they were to lose, they can tell the few remaining recruits on their board that they are the piece needed to get over the hump. The win also helped silence any “Mark Richt hot seat” talk, which surprisingly crept up after Georgia’s blowout loss at South Carolina.
The win did impress star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, who has long had Georgia and Alabama out in front for his signature. “Georgia beasted Florida,” Tunsil told 247sports.

Griffin is the 26th member of Georgia’s 2013 recruiting class. SEC regulations limit schools to signing only 25 players a year, but early enrollees can be backdated to the year before. Griffin is Georgia’s 16th in-state commitment in 2013.
Georgia is currently ranked seventh in Rivals 2013 recruiting class rankings, and fourth in the SEC behind LSU (third), Florida (fifth), and Alabama (sixth).

Contact between fans and recruits is nothing new. For decades, fans have seen a top player at their local high school game on a Friday night and said things like “Hey recruit, GO DAWGS!,” or “Hope to see you score touchdowns just like that in Athens next year!”
And there’s really nothing sinister with that, NCAA rules aside. It’s occurring at a football game, in a public setting, etc.

Bostick is 6’1 and 217 pounds, and does have room to add more muscle.
He profiles as an in-the-box safety. This will allow him to use his quickness and physical style to stop the run and disrupt short passes. Playing in the box will also not expose Bostick to covering large areas, which could be difficult for him given his average top speed. Bostick should play in a zone scheme and attack downhill. He is not built to split out wide and cover receivers.
