Marcus Baugh signs with Ohio State: Athletic tight end fits perfectly in Urban Meyer offense

Can Marcus Baugh be the next Aaron Hernandez for Urban Meyer? Baugh signed with the Ohio State Buckeyes today.

Marcus Baugh figures to be one of many super freshmen who will have a chance to contribute immediately for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Riverside, Calif., tight end should have plenty of opportunities to produce.

Baugh is one of those tight ends that seem to be set to go from the outset. He has all the physical ability to produce as soon as he gets out on the field, and also showcases great athleticism that will make him an incredibly tough cover for anyone in the Big Ten. Baugh possesses pure receiving skills that could force him more toward a slot receiver role than a pure tight end spot, similar to Meyer's greatest tight end, Aaron Hernandez.

Derrell Warren wrote an excellent scouting report on Baugh on SB Nation this summer, long after Baugh committed to the Buckeyes.

Baugh is an excellent receiving tight end. One of his major strengths is his ability to line up at different spots within an offensive scheme and be a consistent threat in an aerial attack. Baugh is a natural pass catcher with the quick twitch movement skills of a smaller player. He has the flexibility to extend his arms and cleanly pluck the football away from his frame. Baugh also has very good body control. This trait is evident in the instances in which he is asked to adjust in mid-air to off-target throws, and haul in contested catches versus tight coverage.

Urban Meyer landed a jewel in California with Baugh. This type of tight end, in the Hernandez role, has always proved to be a needed utility to make Meyer’s offense go, and he has the perfect frame and skills to excel within the system. Baugh discovered early that he meshed perfectly with Ohio State’s vision for him, and off to Columbus he’ll go this summer.
Ratings: Baugh is a consensus four-star tight end.

Vitals: Baugh stands 6’4 and weighs 225 pounds.

Other Offers: Baugh has offers from schools like Florida, Nebraska, Miami, Ole Miss and several Pac-12 schools like Arizona State, Cal, Oregon State, UCLA and Washington.
