The Ohio State Buckeyes don’t need immediate help at the quarterback position, but they do have Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider dual-threat quarterback JT Barrett enrolled, on campus, and ready to start his Buckeye career this spring.

The Texas product will have a chance to develop behind Braxton Miller.
Barrett’s first order of business is recovering from the torn ACL and meniscus that prematurely ended his senior season.
A consensus four-star prospect ranked as the second-best dual-threat quarterback in the country by the 247Sports composite rankings, the 6-2, 210-pounder chose the Buckeyes in April of 2012 over offers from Arizona, Baylor, Illinois, Kansas State, LSU, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech, with interest from a handful of other top programs.
Known for his leadership skills, Barrett doesn’t have ideal size and speed for the position -- he measured at 6-1.5 and ran a 4.79 40 at the Under Armour combine in January of 2012. However, Barrett does have the ability to make defenders miss in pads and plays faster than he tested on that slow track.
As a passer, Barrett is further along that many prospects who get the dual-threat designation. He doesn’t have ideal height to help him throw the football, so he maximizes his lower body torque to help his arm strength and can also change speeds on the football to make throws over opponents in coverage.
