Myles Garrett headlines Texas A&M’s Friday Night Lights visitors

The Aggies are holding their second spring scrimmage Friday night and it will be a big recruiting event.

The Texas A&M Aggies are a week away from ending their spring with the annual Maroon and White game, but the second scrimmage of the spring, called Friday Night Lights, is an equally big recruiting event for head coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff, featuring numerous 2014 and 2015 targets, as well as a handful of 2014 commits.

Leading the way in the 2014 class in term of top targets for the Aggies is Arlington (Texas) Martin defensive end Myles Garrett, one of the top players in the state and one of the top players on the board for Texas A&M.

Good Bull Hunting recruiting analyst OrionHJarvis believes that the Aggies have a big opportunity with the physical freak of an edge rusher this weekend:

The Ags are a longtime favorite for the consensus five-star and hope to get him to shut the process down this weekend.

Not far behind Garrett in terms of importance are Katy (Texas) Seven Lakes defensive end Jarrett Johnson and Houston (Texas) Cy Falls linebacker Otaro Alaka, two players who may be taking their final visits before making their respective decisions in the near future.

While both would be solid pieces in an A&M class that currently ranks as the country’s best, the bigger storyline for both is that A&M and Texas are the finalists for both in a cycle in which the Aggies have defeated the ‘Horns handily in head-to-head recruiting battles.

Will the Aggies continue to ride roughshod over their longtime rivals on the recruiting trail or can the ‘Horns start to regain a more equal footing by landing one or both? Their decisions will be telling in that developing storyline.

Another intriguing uncommitted visitor is Bossier (La.) Parkway quarterback Brandon Harris, a rising prospect who has seen his stock skyrocket over the last several weeks with offers seemingly coming in every day.

Right now, the top two targets at the position appear to be Oklahoma product Justice Hansen and Arizona standout Kyle Allen, both pro-style prospects. Will Harris pick up an offer or will A&M continue to evaluate him during the spring?

Of the committed prospects on campus, Richmond (Texas) Bush defensive back Nick Harvey visited Texas last week and wasn’t entirely forthcoming about the trip with TexAgs when asked about where he was.

Most Aggie fans weren’t particularly concerned about the journey to Austin, in part because it happened in tandem with his appearance at the Texas Relays to run, but his presence in College Station one week after taking in the Texas spring game should help reduce any lingering fears, even if the lines of communication between Harvey and the Longhorns staff may still be open.

In the 2015 class, two committed players will be in attendance -- Houston (Texas) Clear Lake tight end Jordan Davis, who is pledged to Florida State, and Orange (Texas) West Orange-Stark safety Deionte Thompson, along with several other players who could end up being top targets for A&M. Davis and Thompson are both candidates to receive offers on Friday night.
