Kd Cannon, other prospects visiting Baylor for spring game

The Mount Pleasant (Texas) wide receiver may be the top Baylor target in the 2014 class.

The Baylor Bears will take the field on Saturday to end spring practice with their annual spring game, which will also double as an important recruiting event for Art Briles and his staff.

The top target expected to be in attendance is a player who may also be the top overall target in the 2014 class for the Bears. He’s certainly one of the top players in the state:

While Cannon has not revealed much publicly in terms of a list of favorites or even schools that are standing out for him, he said about a month ago that the Bears are recruiting him harder than any other suitors for his services.

The Bears prolific, high-scoring offense that has a proven track record of putting wide receivers in the NFL has played well with Cannon throughout the early part of the process and having a chance to see it in action should only help to solidify those feelings, if they weren’t rock-solid already.

Cannon will also have a chance to see the future of the quarterback position at Baylor. Junior Bryce Petty should win the starting job for the Bears, but someone Cannon may be more interested in watching is early enrollee Chris Johnson, a relatively raw prospect coming out of high school who could end up being the starter for most of Cannon’s career at Baylor if he ends up picking the Bears.

In the competition for the talented wide receiver with an uncanny ability to get open deep, the Bears are battling the likes of Oklahoma, Texas, and a number of other schools, but may be in the strongest shape of all the contenders, even if Cannon hasn’t said so publicly.

It’s not out of the question that a good visit for the Mount Pleasant product could put the Bears out in front, even if those feelings are kept to himself.

Other important visitors include Ennis (Texas) running back pledge Terence Williams, who is an increasingly hot commodity around the state, but the biggest name is that of Arlington (Texas) Martin defensive end Myles Garrett. Dallas (Texas) Skyline offensive tackle Ty Barrett is another highly-regarded recruit who is expected to be in attendance, along with a number of other recruits, including 2015 Ennis (Texas) defensive end James Lockhart, whose stock has been taking off recently.
