A week ago, Abilene (Texas) Cooper safety Cordell Dorsey told SB Nation Recruiting at the Round Rock SQT that he didn't have any schools standing out among his five offers, but on Friday he opted to end his recruitment in favor of the Baylor Bears, announcing his decision on Twitter:

In addition, the timetable for Dorsey’s decision hardly sounded immediate with plans to attend camps at some of the schools that had offered and to work out at safety for schools like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State that were showing heavy interest, but wanted to see him work at the position he hasn’t played since his freshman season.
A consensus three-star prospect who could add his fourth star with his transition back to safety for his senior season, Dorsey held offers from Oregon State, Texas Tech, Texas State, and Washington. At 6’2 and 190 pounds with the frame to play at 210 or 215 pounds easily in college, he could eventually end up as a hybrid safety/outside linebacker, a position that is in heavy need in the Big 12 because of all the spread offenses in the league.
At 7-on-7 last weekend, Dorsey flashed the ability to transition in space and find the football to break up passes, despite working in poor weather conditions and battling what appeared to be a cramp. Ultimately, his work there this season will help define his true upside at the position moving forward, but at this time it does appear to be significant, as much as it requires some projection.
Dorsey certainly sounded confident about his ability to make the move successfully.
“I’m very comfortable with the move to safety because I played there my freshman year and it’s all about the game IQ -- if you have that down, it’s all pretty easy,” the 247Sports high three-star prospect said last weekend.
“It’s not about anything physical, it’s about trying getting my mindset right and studying film and get everything down to be the greatest,” he added when asked about learning technique in the move further from the line of scrimmage.
The Bears got a good one and are adding the pieces to take the defense to the next level and remove some pressure from an offense counted upon to rack up the points every weekend in the fall. If or when that happens, Baylor will become serious contenders for Big 12 titles every season.
The 2014 class is looking like it will help in that direction, at least by bolstering the already-strong offense, as the group currently ranks in the top 20 nationally and second in the Big 12. Dorsey is the 12th prospect to join the class and the first non-defensive end on that side of the ball, though Texarkana (Texas) Liberty-Eylau’s Davion Hall could end up at safety, too.
