Byron Daniels commits to the Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Red Raiders continue to make headway in San Antonio.

The hot start on the recruiting trail for new Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury continued on Tuesday evening with the pledge of another San Antonio-area prospect:

The Madison wide receiver is now the third player from the San Antonio area to commit to Texas Tech in the class, largely a result of the presence on the coaching staff of former Cibolo Steele head coach Mike Jinks, who is now coaching the running backs in Lubbock.

Daniels had favored Texas Tech for some time after visiting for a Junior Day, a notable example of the buzz that Kingsbury has created around the program.

A consensus three-star prospect, Daniels is a 6’1, 170-pounder with offers from Houston, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. He’s rated as the no. 122 wide receiver nationally and the no. 117 prospect in Texas.

A lanky prospect with a thin frame that will probably not approach 200 pounds in college, Daniels is probably an inside receiver at Texas Tech, where he won’t have to deal with as much press coverage. Smooth with his speed, which is above-average if hardly approaching elite, he’s a good deep threat in high school who excels running the corner route.

Of the 11 current commitments for the Red Raiders, five are either wide receivers or could play wide receiver in the class, as Tech has worked hard to fill a major position of need.
