Standout 2016 CB Levonta Taylor just going through the process

Will his connections to Virginia keep him in state?

CHARLOTTE, NC -- In a talented group of defensive backs at the Charlotte Nike Football Training Camp last Saturday at Ardrey Kell High School, one of the most highly-recruited prospects was 2016 Virginia Beach (Virg.) Ocean Lake cornerback Levonta Taylor.

Considered a four-star prospect by Scout, Taylor already has offers from the likes of Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan State, NC State, North Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virgnia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Taylor told SB Nation Recruiting after the event that none of his 16 offers are standing out for him at this time, as he’s “just going through the process right now.”

The 5’10, 170-pounder has an upcoming visit planned to Tennessee before making a trip through Florida, visiting Miami, Florida, and Florida State.

All that after a relatively quiet month for Taylor, who took an early March visit to Virginia for the school’s first spring practice.

On the recruiting trail, the Cavaliers have been adding the type of impact recruits that could help turn the program around.

“I pay attention to it, but really I look at them and it doesn’t have anything to do with me,” Taylor told SB Nation Recruiting. “When I pick a college, it will be the best thing for me.”

Still, Taylor did rattle off an extensive list of recent high-profile prospects from the last several recruiting classes that he knows personally.

Somewhat surprisingly, the star additions to the Virginia program haven’t been giving Taylor hard sell, though he does keep up with 2014 safety signee Quin Blanding on a regular basis.

A fan of the Florida Gators growing up, Taylor is waiting on an offer from the Gators, part of the reason why he's going to visit Gainesville. He's going through a similar waiting game with Florida State.

In his recruitment, Taylor is looking for loyalty from a program, saying that he wants to find a school that let’s him know he can come in and compete and play early. The depth chart, however, won’t be a factor, as Taylor has the confident mindset necessarily for a cornerback.

“I’m not scared of competition. I’ll just go there and do my thing,” he said.

The Ocean Lakes product wants to get his recruitment finalized before his senior season, but he did say there is some appeal to the possibility of announcing during one of the post season all-star games, which would take his recruitment into January of 2016.
