The top-rated recruit in the class of 2018 is headed to Georgia. Five-star quarterback Justin Fields, from nearby Kennesaw, announced Friday that he’ll play for the Bulldogs.
5-star QB Justin Fields the latest to commit to UGA with an actual, live bulldog
It’s the proper way to commit to Georgia.

Fields formally made his announcement at a high school pep rally on Friday. But he’d done a prerecorded video with CBS Sports, and in it, HE HELD A BULLDOG.
Holding actual bulldogs is a great thing that sometimes accompanies UGA commitments. There is a whole recent history of UGA commits using the dogs to commit to the Dawgs, and it’s somewhat of a disappointment when a real dog isn’t involved. Some previous dog commitments to the Dawgs include:
(Bonus points for the double-dog commitment.)
The first person on record to commit via live bulldog was Isaiah Crowell in 2011. He was a five-star, like Fields, and the presence of the canine was so well-received that players in future Georgia classes kept bringing dogs with them.
I hope this tradition continues eternally.
