RGIII blames anti-Christian bias for BYU’s playoff snub to … Notre Dame

Bold theory.

I’m all for a good-hearted sports conspiracy theory. We know the NBA Draft Lottery is rigged, there’s always star player bias in the NFL, and there’s probably an elaborate reason why a Canadian can never win in the NHL.

Former Heisman winner and NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III is cooking up his own conspiracy theory over the College Football Playoff, and hats off to the man — because it’s just about the dumbest thing you could possibly imagine.

“Stop the persecution of the Christians man, c’mon”

Now look, perhaps this was said tongue-in-cheek — but who knows? RGIII’s takes are so confusing sometimes that it’s difficult to know what the actual point is. In this exact same segment he uttered the words “If two-loss Alabama loses in the SEC Championship they’ll have three losses.” At least the math checks out.

Ostensibly what RGIII is saying is that all Power 4 conferences should be treated equally, which is asinine. There is no planet in which the Big 12 or the ACC are equal to the SEC of Big Ten. That is what it is. He mentions Miami in the tweet, but the only reason they’re assumed to be in is because it’s expected to win the ACC. BYU can be in on the same merit if it’s able to beat No. 5 Texas Tech.

Let’s take Miami out of the equation. This is really about Alabama and Notre Dame. If Alabama loses then yes, they will be a three-loss team. Does anyone really think that the Tide should be so heavily penalized for a Week 1 blip on the radar against Florida State? This is a team that beat four teams ranked inside the Top 25, and their only other loss came to No. 8 Oklahoma in a one score game.

Then there’s Notre Dame, who despite what RGIII said, actually did have a tougher schedule than BYU, and beating their opponents by an average of 24.4 points per game. They have the 5th best offense in the nation (to BYUs 13th) and the 13th best offense (to BYU’s 14th). That’s before we get to the hilariousness of saying there’s “anti-Christian bias” favoring THE MOST FAMOUS CATHOLIC SCHOOL ON THE PLANET EARTH.

In the end, RGIII’s takes are about as good as his cowboy hat. We can leave it at that.
