The University of Florida is rooting hard for Tulane in the College Football Playoff. Kind of.

That is a weird sentence and representative of our current times in college football. Chaos is everywhere, disorganization is running rampant, and nothing is ever firm and set. I offer this as a representation of reality and not as some millennial-getting-older take, but I think it is universally agreed upon that the state of the game we love is in a weird place.

Consider Jon Sumrall as an example. He is currently the head coach at both Tulane and Florida. You read that right.

The Gators hired Jon Sumrall to replace Billy Napier in Gainesville and the biggest reason why was how Sumrall navigated Tulane to the CFP in the second year of its 12-team format. The problem is that the playoff begins this weekend, Sumrall will lead Tulane against Ole Miss on Saturday, and that he was hired by UF right after their season ended due to the upcoming (at the time) signing day. The timing of things requires a willingness to be amenable from everyone involved.

I’m a Florida grad student so I have a vested interest in Sumrall succeeding with the Gators. One of the most distinguished Gators alum that there is in Laura Rutledge recently provided some hope and confidence towards the idea that Sumrall will thrive in a chat that she and I had about Honey Baked Ham and their all-new Prime Rib option.

As noted Honey Baked Ham has a Prime Rib option which is fantastic news at the holiday season. I don’t know if offering world class ham and prime rib simultaneously is akin to Jon Sumrall coaching two different college football teams simultaneously, but it has to come pretty close.

Laura Rutledge is someone who is very busy this time of year so if these options make sense for her lifestyle then they can certainly line up with anyone’s who is managing a busy schedule around the holidays.
