Burgers and #BeaverJuice: How far can Oregon State’s In-N-Out tradition take them?

If In-N-Out burgers really are the secret power behind Oregon State’s hot start, the rest of the schedule lines up quite nicely for the Beavers.

As we know, the mighty Oregon State Beavers are invincible whenever they play within proximity of an In-N-Out Burger. Mike Riley famously treated his players to classic In-N-MegaStackers (or whatever their burgers are called; I’m from Five Guys country) after knocking off UCLA in Los Angeles, then did the same in Tucson after outlasting Arizona.

But how long can the burger-powered Beavers last?

The Wall Street Journal has charted the distance from each Pac-12 stadium to the nearest In-N-Out, finding Washington State and Washington to be the climates harshest to OSU. The good news for Riley’s carnivores: they get WSU at home, where they’re 1-0 and apparently not in need of beef.

But that trip to play the Huskies still puts them nearly 600 miles from the nearest In-N-Out in Redding, California. Other than that, OSU’s within range for both of their remaining road games:

  • BYU, Oct. 13: 4.6 miles
  • Stanford, Nov. 10: 5.3 miles
  • Washington, Nov. 27: 597 miles

Smart out-of-conference scheduling, as Utah is rich with In-N-Outs. And if OSU makes the Pac-12 title game, it’ll play a team no farther than 11.3 miles from the power source (Colorado is definitely not going to the Pac-12 title game, further strengthening the theory behind all this).

It’s probably for the best of college football that there’s not a location anywhere near Corvallis, as the Beavers would be pretty much unstoppable at that point.
