Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly is still undecided on who will be the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Brigham Young

    Golson over Rees for Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma

    Rees went 7-for-16 for 117 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Cougars. On the season Golson has started five of the Irish’s seven games and has thrown for 968 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions with a completion percentage of 58.5. Rees has the same completion percentage on the season, throwing for 335 yards with two TDs and one INT.

    The undefeated Irish will take on the Sooners in Norman, Okla., in a battle of top 10 teams at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 27.

    As Kelly notes, Golson participated in practice last week, but not to the extent that the coaching staff was ready to put him back in game situations:

    Golson started five of Notre Dame’s first six games after emerging as the starter during the spring. This season, he’s completed 59 percent of his passes for 968 yards, four touchdowns and three inceptions in addition to rushing for 81 yards and two scores.

    Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly is using every possible moment to evaluate his QB before deciding whether the sophomore will be forced out of his team’s contest against the Cougars. Speaking to the media, Kelly preached the importance of not treating every head injury equally:

    Golson is very much a work in progress, but he still represents the most consistency the Irish have at the position. Completing 58.5 percent of his passes this season, the strong-armed sophomore has thrown for 968 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions.
