The Cardinal enter ranked 20th in the BCS standings. They lost a heartbreaking overtime game at the goal line to Notre Dame last week, which could have an effect on coach David Shaw's team. Quarterback Josh Nunes has struggled to play consistently for four quarters this season, and the offense has stalled because of it. Running back Stepfan Taylor is one of the best in the nation and could have a big day against Cal's inexperienced front seven.
The Bears played a very difficult schedule early in the year, and they paid for it, starting 1-4. Since then, the team has won back-to-back conference games and is showing signs of life. California features one of the nation's premier wide receivers in Keenan Allen, who leads his team with 52 receptions for 622 yards and five touchdowns. Quarterback Zach Maynard has struggled this season despite Allen's performance, throwing five interceptions in three conference games thus far.
