Wyoming’s Dave Christensen suspended, fined for rant after Air Force game

Dave Christensen’s pockets will be a bit lighter after disciplinary action from his school.

Ethan Miller

Wyoming Cowboys head football coach Dave Christensen has been suspended for one game and fined $50,000 for his post-game actions on Oct. 13, the school announced today. (Make sure to check Every Day Should Be Saturday for the not-safe-for-work video and a necessary, detailed breakdown of the tirade.)

The punishment has come from Tom Burman, Wyoming's athletic director, after Christensen ripped into Air Force Falcons coach Troy Calhoun with a profanity-riddled rant as the two left the field. Christensen called Calhoun "Mister f****** Howdy Doody," among other things, based on his belief that Air Force quarterback Connor Dietz faked an injury to set up a play on the Falcons' game-winning drive. Wyoming lost the game, 28-27.

Christensen will not be involved with any practice preparation this week as well, as Wyoming prepares to host the Boise St. Broncos on Saturday. Wyoming assistant Pete Kaligis will be the Cowboys' head man for the week. The Mountain West Conference said it would not add any further discipline.

Aside from the rant, Wyoming is 1-6 this season, its only win coming in overtime over the hapless Idaho Vandals. Despite that, Burman said Christensen will be the head coach next year. Christensen received a new contract at last season's end that is set to keep him in Laramie through 2016.
