Mack Brown rants about Longhorn Network: ‘I didn’t ask for it’

Texas head coach Mack Brown expressed his frustrations with Texas’ Longhorn Network.

Texas head coach Mack Brown went off about the Longhorn Network on Monday, which is a thing he apparently didn’t ask for. When the network was first unveiled last year, Brown and the Longhorn community welcomed it with open arms. But since then, it’s become a bit of distraction for the head coach, who says his 5-2 team is overexposed by the all-access network:

“I didn’t ask for it,” Brown said Monday, noting he’s worried that the six hours a week he spends taping three television shows and the network’s access to the first 30 minutes of daily practice may tip opposing coaches to player injuries, tendencies and schemes.

Brown said he and Baylor coach Art Briles discussed it before Texas (5-2) beat Baylor 56-50 on Saturday.

“It’s in Waco. Baylor sees every practice,” Brown said. “We’re a little overexposed.”

Brown spends six hours a week filming shows for the network, and the first 30 minutes of every Texas practice are televised.

The Longhorn Network is part of a 20-year, $300 million deal with ESPN that was announced in January 2011. It caused a stir within the Big 12, and ultimately contributed to the departure of Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC.
