Former LSU football players Tyrann Mathieu, Jordan Jefferson and Derrick Bryant were released from jail on Friday, while their teammate Karnell Hatcher remained there. All four of them were arrested Thursday.

Mathieu, who was suspended from the team just before the season reportedly for multiple failed drug tests, was charged with a minor possession of marijuana offense, along with Jefferson, who played quarterback for the Tigers in the 2011 BCS Championship Game.

Hatcher was hit with a second-time offense charge of possession, while Bryant was charged with intent to distribute. Mathieu and Jefferson each had a $500 bond. Hatcher’s bond was set at $3,500. Bryant’s bond was $9,000.

Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy candidate last season as a defensive back and return specialist. Even with his suspension, there was hope that Mathieu could return to the team in 2013 if he kept his nose clean. It’s unclear now if that’s still a possibility.

Jefferson had been playing in the Canadian Football League since completing his career at LSU.
