BYU vs. Georgia Tech 2012 final score: Cougars beat Yellow Jackets 41-17

The BYU Cougars bettered the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a solid rushing game.

Scott Cunningham

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fell to the BYU Cougars, 41-17, in Atlanta’s Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday

The Yellow Jackets struggled to generate any offense, moving the ball for just 157 yards on the day with no offensive touchdowns. Georgia Tech also failed to convert a single third down on the afternoon. Special teams play and an opportunistic defense kept it closer early, but BYU was able to pull away in the second half thanks largely to the offensive performance by halfback Jamaal Williams, who accounted for four total touchdowns for the Cougars.

On the loss, Georgia Tech falls to 3-5 on the year. With the win, BYU is one game closer to bowl eligibility at 5-4.

Box Score Hero: BYU’s Jamaal Williams was a major factor in the Cougars success, scoring three touchdowns rushing and one receiving. He totalled 161 all-purpose yards during the game.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither BYU nor Georgia Tech was ranked heading into this week, and BYU’s win is not likely to earn the Cougars (5-4, 0-1) any consideration for rankings.

But Did They Cover? Georgia Tech, as 2.5-point favorites, did not beat the spread.

Next Week’s Schedule: Georgia Tech will travel to face the Maryland Terrapins and BYU has a bye before a Nov. 10 home date against Idaho.
