Bomani & Jones: Honey Badger and his hated homeboy

Tyrann Mathieu’s future got a little murkier after he was arrested for marijuana possession last week. Once a folk hero, the Honey Badger became even more of a cautionary tale to those who like telling cautionary tales, but don’t really care about those they caution.

But lost in that story was the truly teachable moment, something people missed because it didn’t really have to do with Mathieu. It was all about former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, and the mystery as to why he’d ever want to go back to Baton Rouge, a place where he’s about as beloved as Nick Saban.

No matter what you think of marijuana use, we can all agree that this story never gets out if Jefferson had just waited for someone to let him in the gate of that apartment complex. Taking that chance in a city where many, many people wish ill upon him led to a call to the cops, a knock on the door, and four arrests.

They say you can always go home. “Bomani & Jones” is helping Jefferson understand that, as his alma mater is concerned, that cliché doesn’t apply to him.
