LSU-Alabama: Sam Montgomery to wear Marcus Lattimore’s No. 21

Sam Montgomery will be making one of the nicest gestures in recent sports memory on Saturday.

Sam Montgomery is showing that not only is he a great footballl player, but he's also a great person.

Montgomery, a LSU Tigers defensive end and surely a first-round draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, has requested to wear No. 21 the rest of the season in honor of South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore, according to Josh Kendall.

Montgomery is a South Carolina native and close friends with Lattimore.

Lattimore had his right knee severely injured last week against the Tennessee Volunteers and at minimum is out for the remainder of the season. It's unclear whether or not Lattimore will ever be able to play again, although the chance is certainly there.

The star running back hasn’t used his redshirt season yet, so Lattimore does have options if his rehab should cut into his 2013-14 campaign.

Montgomery plans to wear his new number starting this Saturday in a nationally televised game against the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide.
