USC quarterback Matt Barkley was hurt against UCLA with what’s reportedly a shoulder injury, and it appears he will once against sit out against Notre Dame at home.
Barkley expected back for Sun Bowl

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIREA chance to play in a bowl game is significant for Barkley and the Trojans, who were ineligible the past two seasons because of NCAA sanctions from the fallout of Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy.
For much of the season, Barkley was in contention for the Heisman, and despite missing the past game, posted strong numbers with 3,273 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. He’s expected to be a high draft pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

Jeff GrossBarkley, one of USC’s four captains, suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter during a Trojans drive. With under three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, UCLA’s linebacker Anthony Barr drove Barkley to the ground for a sack. The senior quarterback remained on the ground for a few moments before walking off of the field under his own power.
The potential loss of Barkley would be a crushing blow to the Trojans, who will be preparing for a visit from Notre Dame on Saturday, Nov. 24, but it would also be a terrible way for Barkley to end his collegiate career, if the injury keeps him out for extended time. Barkley choose to return for his senior season at USC instead of entering the NFL Draft last year.
