Miami forfeits bowl, ACC title game, meaning Florida State vs. Georgia Tech

Miami announced the Hurricanes will forgo postseason play for an “unprecedented” second straight season, the school announces. This means the ACC title game will be Florida State vs. Georgia Tech. Follow @SBNationCFB

Still dealing with the lingering aspects of an ongoing NCAA investigation, the Miami Hurricanes remained mum as the season wound down on whether they would forfeit the opportunity to go to the ACC Championship Game or a possible postseason bowl game. But Monday morning, the Canes announced they won't play in the postseason. Semi-updated bowl projections here.

According to an Associated Press report, Miami coach Al Golden wanted to attend any postseason play the Hurricanes might qualify for, but the coach had yet to get official word from Miami athletic director Blake James either way as of Sunday.

The Hurricanes' 40-9 victory over the South Florida Bulls on Saturday gave Miami its sixth victory, which qualified it for a bowl. The Hurricanes remained alive in the ACC's Coastal Division and would've claim a spot in the ACC Championship Game with a win over Duke. A victory in the conference championship game would've meant a berth in the Orange Bowl.

Miami self-imposed a postseason ban last year in response to the investigation into compliance practices.
