Auburn football reportedly under NCAA investigation after all

The Auburn Tigers and their embattled head coach Gene Chizik are now dealing with an NCAA investigation to add on to their already disappointing season on the field.

Already struggling through a disappointing 3-8 season and a winless SEC conference record, now the Auburn Tigers are being investigated by the NCAA, according to Yahoo! Sports, in relation to the same Jovon Robinson story that's been building since August. Multiple high school coaches had previously claimed the NCAA was investigating Auburn.

Sources told Yahoo! that the NCAA is investigating potential improprieties involving various members of the Auburn athletic department including recruits, players, coaches, third parties and reps of the school’s athletic interests.

Two members of the Auburn coaching staff who have already felt the sting of the investigation are assistant coaches Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper who were taken off the recruiting trail, according to sources that spoke with Yahoo!. Head coach Gene Chizik would not speak directly on the matter (and he’s still not talking, though the investigation could very directly involve him), instead moving the focus to his players and coaches as they prepare for what could be the last game of the coach’s tenure with the program.

“I don’t have time for all of that,” Chizik said in a press conference on Oct. 30. “I’ve got one direct focus: that is my team and my players. That has nothing to do with us winning. Whoever said that has nothing to do with anything, so I am not getting into any of that stuff. I’ve got one track, and that is our players and our coaches, and trying to get us to the next win, so, all of that stuff, I have no comment on that.”

The 2010 allegations of former quarterback Cam Newton are said to not be a part of the NCAA’s investigation.
