Johnny Manziel injury: Texas A&M star tweaks knee

Heisman Trophy favorite Johnny Manziel hurt his knee against Missouri, but looks like he could return -- he’s put a brace on and has his helmet back.

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel looks to have hurt his knee early against Missouri. The presumed Heisman Trophy winner suffered the leg injury while trying to wriggle free from a tackle.

He was surrounded by trainers, who worked on his knee for a moment before helping him to the bench as the crowd chanted his first name. Teammates gathered around to encourage him as backup Jameill Showers handed off to Christine Michael, who scored an immediate touchdown to make it 21-0.

ESPN2 reported he’s having a trainer track down his knee brace, so let’s not rule him out of a return. He’s now headed to the locker room.

That it’s 21-0 could affect things. At this point, A&M does not need to put any more pressure on Manziel than he can handle. Showers is a capable quarterback all his own -- he was actually expected to be the starter before Manziel took the job.
