The administration for the Florida Atlantic Owls have agreed to leave the Sun Belt Conference and join Conference USA starting in 2013, according to a tweet by Brett McMurphy of ESPN. The Owls have been a member of the Sun Belt Conference since 2005. Also joining the Owls in Conference USA from the Sun Belt will be the Middle Tennessee St. Blue Raiders who joined the Sun Belt in 2000.
Conference realignment: FAU to join Conference USA
The Florida Atlantic Owls are set to leave the Sun Belt Conference and join seven other teams entering Conference USA next year, according to reports.


Both schools will be joining six other teams making their Conference USA debuts in 2013. Other schools that will be joining the conference next year include the Charlotte 49ers, the Florida International Golden Panthers, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, the North Texas Mean Green, the Old Dominion Monarchs and the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners.
The Owls this season have gone 3-8 in football and 2-5 in the Sun Belt Conference with one game remaining on the schedule against the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns set for a 3 p.m. kickoff on Saturday at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
