Bowling Green vs. Ohio final score: Bowling Green downs Ohio in crucial MAC contest

Bowling Green took care of Ohio, 26-14, on Wednesday, putting the Falcons at 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference -- good for sole possession of second place in the league’s East division.

Quarterback Matt Schilz connected with Chris Gallon on a 55-yard, second-quarter touchdown pass on Wednesday night to give the Bowling Green Falcons a lead they would never relinquish against the Ohio Bobcats. The Falcons went on to win, 26-14.

With the road victory, Bowling Green is 7-3, and 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons are now alone in second place in the league’s East division.

That touchdown by Gallon gave Bowling Green a 14-7 lead and contributed to a 19-point offensive onslaught in the second quarter that saw the Falcons eventually turn a 7-0 deficit into a 19-7 advantage.

Anthon Samuel got the scoring started that quarter by rushing for a 15-yard touchdown that tied the game at 7-7. Tyler Tate added a 35-yard field goal, and the Falcons also picked up two points off a safety in that quarter.

Ohio drew closer in the third quarter on a touchdown to cap a 14-play, 95-yard drive that took 5:24 off the clock. That score made it 19-14, but the Bobcats would not get closer.

The Falcons answered in the fourth quarter when Samuel trotted in for another touchdown, this one from 4 yards out, to provide the final margin. Samuel was the clear star of the game, rushing for a game-high 181 yards -- almost double the 97-yard mark from Ohio’s Beau Blankenship.

Bowling Green will next face Kent State on Nov. 17 in a game that could decide who wins the MAC East.
