P.J. Fleck expected to be Western Michigan football coach, according to report

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver coach P.J. Fleck is expected to be the next head coach at Western Michigan, ending the Broncos’ month-long coaching search.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers coach P.J. Fleck is expected to be named the next head coach of Western Michigan, according to David Drew of MLive.com.

If true, this would be Fleck’s first head coaching job at any level. Fleck began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Jim Tressel at Ohio State in 2006. He was hired by Northern Illinois as the wide receivers coach the following year and held that position until 2010 when he was hired by Rutgers for the same job. He coached the wide receivers at Rutgers for two seasons before accepting the offensive coordinator position at Northern Illinois. However, after only one day on the job, he resigned the position to follow former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Western Michigan’s coaching search began in mid-November. Former head coach Bill Cubit was fired after the Broncos went 4-8 with two wins in MAC play. Regarding the surprising firing of Cubit, Football Scoop and Hondo Carpenter had the following to say on Monday:
