Kyle Van Noy coming back to BYU for 2013 season

Van Noy is one of the top linebackers in the country and his return means that BYU could still stay among the elite defenses in the nation next season.

USA TODAY Sports

BYU junior All-American linebacker Kyle Van Noy will bypass the NFL Draft and return to the Cougars for his senior season, according to BYU's official website.

Van Noy announced on Monday that he feels he still has some unfinished business at BYU and that he’s looking forward to another season playing with his teammates.

This is great news for the Cougars, as Van Noy turned in a spectacular season that ended with one of the best performances you’ll ever see by a defensive player in a bowl game. Van Noy completely took over the Poinsettia Bowl against the San Diego State Aztecs on Dec. 20, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on a fumble recovery and an interception to go along with eight tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked punt. Some defensive players don’t get all of that in a season, but Van Noy pulled it all off in a game.

Van Noy was named to two All-American teams (CBS Sports and Associated Press) while finishing the season with 53 tackles, 13 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries, six forced fumbles (a school-record), two blocked kicks, five pass breakups, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and two touchdowns for the No. 3 defense in the country.
