Former Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bobby Petrino has expressed interest in the now-vacant Arkansas State Red Wolves head coaching position, it was reported on Thursday.

Bobby Petrino keeps the coaching carousel spinning by expressing interest in Gus Malzahn’s former gig at Arkansas State.
According to Rivals.com's Luke Matheson, Petrino reached out with an interest in the job that new Auburn Tigers coach Gus Malzahn left after spending just one year with the Red Wolves. In the meantime, Arkansas State has named defensive coordinator John Thompson interim head coach for the Red Wolves' GoDaddy.com Bowl showdown with the Kent State Golden Eagles.
The Red Wolves finished with a 9-3 record on their way to a Sun Belt conference championship in Malzahn’s first and only season at the helm.
Petrino was fired as head coach of Arkansas in April 2012. His Razorbacks were 11-2 in 2011 and he won a total of 34 games in four seasons at Arkansas. Coach John L. Smith took over for the Razorbacks, but was not hired full-time at the end of the 2012 season.
