Doug Nussmeier a candidate for Southern Miss job, according to report

Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will reportedly interview for the head coaching job with the Southern Miss. Golden Eagles.

US PRESSWIRE

Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is expected to join the pool of candidates interested in the head coaching job for the Southern Miss. Golden Eagles, according to various reports.

The Golden Eagles are replacing former head coach Ellis Johnson, who failed to win a single game last season and was fired at the conclusion of the season.

Nussmeier was hired by the Crimson Tide in January after spending three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies. He replaced former offensive coordinator Jim McElwain, who left to take over as head coach of the Colorado St. Rams.

In his time as a coordinator, Nussmeier has also spent time as an assistant for the Fresno St. Bulldogs, the Michigan St. Spartans and in the NFL as an assistant with the St. Louis Rams. This past season, the Crimson Tide offense averaged 439 yards per game, 225 on the ground and 214 through the air, good for the No. 40 offense in the country and No. 4 in the SEC.
