Akron and Miami (OH) combined for a thrilling, high-scoring affair on Saturday that saw 14 touchdowns and seven total lead changes, but ultimately ended in a 56-49 victory in favor of Miami.

Akron put together a solid fourth quarter to take the lead over Miami, but a Justin Semmes 3-yard touchdown in the final two minutes of play gave Miami the lead back for the final time and, with it, the win.

Neither team managed an interception until the final 10 seconds of play, when desperation kicked in, though Akron did fumble the ball at the start of the third quarter, which led to a Kaleb Patterson field goal. Dalton Williams threw for 446 yards for Akron, with four touchdowns and one pick. Zac Dysert managed 519 yards off of 34 completions for six touchdowns and no picks for Miami.

Both teams ran the ball well, with Jawon Chisholm carrying the rock 21 times for 155 yards for Akron, but Miami managed to out-gain them overall with eight players getting carries for a combined total of 190 yards, 109 of which went to Dysert. Akron managed to get a safety near the end of the second quarter but, in the end, they just weren't able to come out on top of the frantic game. Miami missed an extra point early on that would have cost them the game if not for the last-minute touchdown.

Box Score Hero: Dysert managed more than 600 yards of offense all on his own, with six touchdowns. He rushed for 109 yards off of 14 carries, and threw for a whopping 519 yards. All six of his touchdowns came through the air, and he didn’t have an interception on the day, either.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team is ranked, with bad losses on their record, and it’s not looking like either will find itself cracking the Top 25 any time soon.

But Did They Cover? The line opened with Miami winning by 6 points, but that only went down as the game approached.

Next Week’s Schedule: Akron will remain at home for a showdown with Bowling Green on Oct. 6, while Miami will resume their three-game road trip with a game against Cincinnati.
