Jadeveon Clowney claims, ‘2 more years in college’

The South Carolina sophomore defensive end tweeted that he wants to stay in Columbia for another two years, one year past becoming NFL Draft eligible.

South Carolina Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney tweeted on Thursday morning that he plans on staying in college for another two years, one year past when he would be eligible for the NFL Draft. Clowney just finished his sophomore season on Columbia, and is already considered one of the top players in the country.

If Clowney were to remain a Gamecock through his senior season, he would be forgoing an opportunity to be one of the first players picked in the 2014 NFL Draft. There’s nothing wrong with a kid opting to stay in school, but Clowney would be putting himself at risk of injury or poor performance knocking him from the top of the draft charts. NFL rules dictate that player must be three years beyond his high school graduation to be draft eligible, and Clowney needs another year to reach that point.

Clowney was tied for second in the nation in 2012 with 13 sacks, as well as tackles for a loss with 23.5. He also delivered what some would consider was the hit of the year on Michigan running back Vincent Smith in the Outback Bowl on New Years Day, separating the unfortunate soul from his helmet and senses.
