Virginia Tech hires Scot Loeffler as offensive coordinator, according to report

The Hokies appear to have found a replacement for Bryan Stinespring in former Auburn offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler.

Virginia Tech hired Scot Loeffler to be its new offensive coordinator on Monday, according to a report from Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports. Loeffler spent the 2012 season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn.

Reports earlier Monday indicated that Loeffler was in Blacksburg meeting with the Hokies for a second time. He replaces Bryan Stinespring, who had been Virginia Tech’s offensive coordinator since 2002. Loeffler has two seasons of experience as an offensive coordinator at the college level -- he ran Temple’s offense in 2011 and then took the reins at Auburn this past season.

His Temple offense ranked 63rd in total offense and 39th in scoring, while his Auburn group finished 115th in total offense and 112th in scoring.

The Hokies are coming off a season in which they ranked just 81st nationally in both total offense and scoring. They ranked eighth or worse in the ACC in both categories, and their issues with moving the football contributed to a disappointing 7-6 season.
