Manti Te’o hoax: Katie Couric TV interview set for Thursday

ABC News’s Katie Couric reportedly scores the first televised sit-down interview with the Notre Dame linebacker at the center of an apparent hoax.

Manti Te'o's first on-camera interview after the firestorm of controversy created in the last few days will reportedly come with ABC News' Katie Couric, according to the New York Times' Brian Stelter.

Stelter first reported the news on Sunday afternoon, saying that the interview would be televised on Thursday, Jan. 24, on "Katie," her syndicated daytime talk show. Check your TV local listings for specifics. Ciips from the interview will also reportedly air on "Good Morning America" and other ABC News programs.

The interview comes on the heels of Te'o's sit down interview with ESPN's Jeremy Schaap, who discussed the apparent hoax that led Te'o to believe a girl he had met online was his girlfriend and later had died of leukemia. The nature of the hoax was first reported by Deadspin last week.

Schaap's interview with Te'o was off-camera, but the transcript was made available after the nearly three-hour discussion between Te'o and ESPN's reporter.

Te'o's parents will reportedly also appear during the exclusive interview, which was reportedly pursued by Oprah Winfrey, who recently interviewed cyclist Lance Armstrong as he confessed to his use of performance-enhancing techniques during his career.
