Brian Polian leaving Texas A&M to become Nevada head coach, according to report

Texas A&M special teams coordinator Brian Polian is reportedly set to become the new head coach for Nevada’s football program.

With the retirement of Chris Ault, the man who invented the pistol offense, in December, the University of Nevada has been in search for a new head coach to take over the team’s football program. According to a report from Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports, Texas A&M special teams coordinator Brian Polian is expected to fill the vacancy.

Nevada has reportedly offered Polian, who is considered to be one of the best recruiters in the nation, the position and the special teams coordinator is expected to accept the offer, but nothing is done as of right now.

Ault led Nevada to a bowl game in all but one of his seasons. Nevada went 7-6 in 2012 and had a commanding lead in the New Mexico Bowl, but a fourth-quarter collapse allowed Arizona to be victorious.

Brian Polian is the son of current ESPN NFL analyst Bill Polian, who served as an executive for the Indianapolis Colts for several years.

Under Polian in 2012, Texas A&M converted 59% of their field goals and 90.5% of points after touchdowns. Meanwhile, the team averaged 43 yards per punt. The Aggies also returned one punt for a touchdown.
