Notre Dame football: Alabama could face revamped offensive attack

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is showing off new wrinkles in the offense prior to Monday’s national title game.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are not only expecting to make plays against the tough Alabama Crimson Tide defense in the BCS National Championship Game on Monday, the Irish might even have a little different look offensively than they had previously in the season.

Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune noted several looks media members saw during Notre Dame’s practice, including motion and misdirection plays in goal-line situations, running backs split out wide and an unbalanced offensive line, among others.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly appears to believe that to beat Alabama, the team will have to take risks offensively. During a press conference this week, Kelly said the team that makes the most mistakes could actually win the game, because mistakes are a sign of aggressiveness. Kelly also noted, via Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, that he plans to take shots offensively early on, hoping to keep the game close going into the fourth quarter and not have to overcome an early deficit.

Notre Dame ranked No. 48 in the country in total offense on the year, with Alabama bringing the No. 1 defense to South Beach.
