2013 BCS National Championship attendance: Alabama vs. Notre Dame draws 80,120

The announced attendance for the national championship game between Alabama Crimson Tide and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish was a stadium record for Sun Life Stadium.

The 2013 BCS National Championship Game between the second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and top-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish drew an attendance of 80,120 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Typically, the stadium has a 76,100 capacity for regular football games, but capacity expands by a little for the national championship. For the 2009 title game between Florida and Oklahoma that was played in the same stadium, the attendance was 78,468.

The attendance figures for other BCS bowl games were varied. The Rose Bowl had 93,359 watch Stanford beat Wisconsin, the Orange Bowl registered 72,073 to see Florida State beat Northern Illinois, the Fiesta Bowl managed 70,242 for Oregon's win over Kansas State, and the Sugar Bowl had only 54,178 on hand watching Louisville beat Florida.

If we compare attendance to previous national championship games, it's about on par with regular games. The 2012 title game between Alabama and LSU in the Superdome in New Orleans drew an attendance of 78,237. The 2011 title game between Auburn and Oregon in University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale saw 78,603 people attend. The 2010 title game between Alabama and Texas in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena attracted 94,906.
