Barrett Jones injury: Torn ligaments couldn’t keep Bama center out

Barrett Jones is probably tougher than you.

Alabama center Barrett Jones was playing through a Lisfranc injury in his left foot for the last five weeks, including during the BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame, according to Al.com. The senior, who spent all four years of his career as a starter along the Crimson Tide offensive line, had been publicly diagnosed with a sprained foot, but had been dealing with torn ligaments in the middle of his foot. Jones will have surgery soon, which will cause him to miss all of the pre-draft events.

The injury didn't stop Jones and his teammates up front from dominating the Irish. Alabama rushed for 265 yards and 5.9 yards per carry in leading a dominant 42-point effort by the Crimson Tide offense. They also managed to protect quarterback A.J. McCarron enough to complete 20 of 28 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns, equating to 9.4 yards per attempt.

Jones helped open up big holes on the way to 28 first downs and four scoring drives of 80 yards or more.
