Lee is the cornerstone of USC's offense, but has struggled with injury all season. He entered the game leading the team with 30 receptions for 385 yards after his historic 1,721-yard, 14-touchdown season as a sophomore last year.
The receiver was hurt in practice this past August, and was carted off the field in the Trojans’ blowout loss to Arizona State.
At halftime, the Trojans trail Notre Dame, 14-10, in an important rivalry game. Lee had just two receptions for 18 yards, so Cody Kessler had been unable to fully utilize his skills, but he helped free space for Nelson Agholor and Darreus Rogers, who have combined for five receptions for 60 yards.
USC will now be without both of its biggest offensive weapons, as running back Tre Madden is missing the game with a hamstring injury.
