Steve Spurrier explains his weird post-UCF TV show

The South Carolina head coach is trying to destroy all evidence of the odd postgame show.

After a comeback victory over Central Florida, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier took part in an odd postgame show, which resulted in him telling The State that he hoped he wasn’t “impaired” during the broadcast.

Steve Spurrier’s weekly postgame show airs on Fox Sports South, and this week’s was ... a little weird. The Spurrier portions begin at around 11:38.

Spurrier asked the South Carolina athletic department website to remove archived footage of the show because he was too “negative,” the coach told The State. He also asked Fox Sports South not to air a re-run of the program. Both obliged -- the show is not available on South Carolina’s official athletics website and Fox Sports South aired a re-run of Spurrier’s post-Vanderbilt show instead.

Spurrier was asked if his odd behavior on the program was “impaired in any way,” to which he replied, “I hope not.” The coach also said he was frustrated and fatigued after the near-loss, and “whether or not I have a few beers after every game for the past 29 years, I don’t think I need to get into all that.”

This is not Spurrier’s first time making requests of South Carolina media outlets this year, after reportedly getting a friend hired at The State to cover the Gamecocks.
