Elsewhere, USC holds its breath over Marqise Lee, Maryland loses its top two wide receivers to season-ending injuries, and can someone get Connor Halliday an arm sling?
The college football world was turned upside down this weekend, as seven ranked teams lost to lower-rated opposition. To recap: No. 3 Clemson got blown out by No. 5 Florida State, Ole Miss took down No. 6 LSU, No. 24 Auburn beat No. 7 Texas A&M at home, No. 9 UCLA lost to No. 13 Stanford, No. 11 South Carolina was shocked by Tennessee, No. 15 Georgia fell to Vanderbilt, and No. 20 Washington got blown out by Arizona State.
INJURIES
Florida
The injuries continue to pile up for the Gators. Starting defensive tackle Damien Jacobs missed Saturday's game against Missouri. The Gators were also without linebacker Ronald Powell, who had a leg injury.
South Carolina
Starting quarterback Connor Shaw left the Gamecocks' loss to Tennessee with a left knee strain in the fourth quarter. Shaw was just 7/21 passing before exiting. South Carolina lost 23-21 on a last-second field goal by the Vols.
Florida State
The Seminoles emerged as national title contenders with their blowout win over Clemson, but lost running back James Wilder, Jr. in the game with a concussion.
USC
The Trojans lost Ed Orgeron's second game as interim head coach, and may have suffered an even bigger loss. Star wide receiver Marqise Lee left the game with a left knee injury and did not return.
UCLA
The Bruins suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Stanford, and star linebacker Eric Kendricks had to leave the stadium at halftime to go to the hospital with kidney pain.
Auburn
The Tigers pulled off a big win over Texas A&M, but did it without starting safety Josh Holsey, who tore his ACL.
Maryland
The Terrapins' horrible injury luck continues. Deon Long and Stefon Diggs, who had combined to create one of the most potent wide receiving duos in the country, both suffered season-ending leg injuries in Maryland's blowout loss to Wake Forest.
RECORDS
The Northern Illinois quarterback delivered another outstanding performance, breaking the college record for rushing yards by a quarterback with a mind-boggling 316 against Central Michigan. The 23-year-old record had been held by another Northern Illinois quarterback, Stacey Robinson, who had run for 308 yards against Fresno State in 1990.
Washington State’s quarterback needs an ice pack for his throwing arm after attempting an FBS-record 89 passes in the Cougars’ 62-38 loss to Oregon Saturday night. Halliday completed a Pac-12 record 58 passes, setting a school record for passing yards (557) in the process. The junior quarterback finished the game with four touchdown passes, but also threw four interceptions.
