Coaches Poll Top 25, Week 9: Alabama, Oregon lead in BCS poll

There is no drama over the top spot in this week’s Coaches Poll, but the debate now begins over who should follow the Crimson Tide. This poll contributes to the official BCS standings, which will be released Sunday night.

The Alabama Crimson Tide remain perched atop the USA Today Coaches Poll for a ninth consecutive week, having received 57 of the 62 available first-place votes following a 52-0 win over Arkansas Saturday. The Crimson Tide are followed by No. 2 Oregon, which got four first-place votes. Florida State, which demolished former-No. 4 Clemson in prime time Saturday night, leapfrogged into the third position. Ohio State and Baylor round out the top five.

Update: The Harris poll also lists Oregon ahead of FSU, meaning the Ducks are the best bet for No. 2 when BCS rankings come out Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET.

1 Alabama (57) 1

Six teams from last week’s Top 10 lost over the weekend, including every team ranked sixth through tenth. That opened the door for Miami, Missouri, and Stanford to move into the upper tier of the poll. Texas Tech and Clemson round out the Top 10.

Along with the Harris Poll and a variety of computer polls, the USA Today Coaches Poll is used by the BCS for choosing the participants in the National Championship Game. Votes are tabulated from a panel of college athletic departments.
