Connor Shaw injury a sprain, not ligament damage

The South Carolina quarterback’s father denied any damage to his son’s knee ligaments, but confirms Shaw suffered a “significant sprain.”

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw suffered a "significant sprain" of his left knee in the Gamecocks' loss to Tennessee Saturday. However, the senior signal-caller does not have any ligament damage as originally feared, according to a report:

Shaw suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game, twisting the knee awkwardly while being tackled by two Tennessee defenders:

He left the game with help from trainers and did not return.

Prior to the injury, Shaw had been struggling through arguably his worst performance of the season. He was just 7/21 passing against Tennessee for 161 yards, though he had contributed 78 rushing yards on 19 carries.

There has not yet been any indication of whether Shaw will be available for South Carolina’s critical game against Missouri next week. With the Gamecocks now 5-2 overall and two games behind the Tigers, any hope of an SEC East title depends on a win Saturday.
