The Ed O’Bannon-led lawsuit against the NCAA has passed another roadblock, as a federal judge denied motions from the NCAA to dismiss the case, via USA Today.

U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken ruled the NCAA’s arguments did not provide “grounds for dismissing Plaintiffs’ claims at this stage.” The next step for the case is a ruling on whether or not it can become a class-action suit, which could potentially ruin the NCAA’s finances and way of business.
O’Bannon is hoping to make a landmark step for the rights of college athletes, and this ruling was great news for the prosecution. The suit specifically focuses on the use of players’ names and likenesses in television, merchandise and other media. The suit has already resulted in EA Sports halting its popular college video game series.
